The much-anticipated release of the Australian Standards “General conditions of contract” AS11000 was, on Tuesday 4 April 2017 abandoned by the Standards Development and Accreditation Committee (SDAC).

The AS11000 was heralded by the wider legal community upon its release for public comment in 2015 as the more accessible replacement for the antiquated AS2124 and AS4000-1997 standard contracts. However, the SDAC felt the AS11000 “was not supported by the full spectrum of interests”.

As key stakeholders were not even prepared to adopt the AS11000 as an “Interim Standard or as an Australian Technical Specification”, it is unlikely this standard form will be reconsidered by Australian Standards any time soon, if at all.
